Get the Seinfeld Experience
Are you a fan of the hit sitcom Seinfeld? If you are, you’ll be happy to hear that a pop-up museum celebrating the show is coming to New York. Titled “The Seinfeld Experience”, it will be an interactive museum with “iconic costumes, memorabilia, set re-creations, and props from the show.” You can read more about it here.
Experience art in a different sense
The Louvre is collaborating with a French perfume company to create perfumes inspired by famous works of art. For example, for the Winged Victory of Samothrace (pictured above), the perfumers have created a scent that smells like delicate, white tuberose flowers mixed with woody myrrh. Seven scents in total will be released on July 3. Read about it here.
Ever wondered what Frida Kahlo sounded like?
The National Sound Library of Mexico has discovered a piece of audio that they believe contains the voice of Frida Kahlo. The clip is supposedly taken from a pilot episode of a radio show from 1955. In the audio, she can be heard reading from her essay Portrait of Diego (about her husband Diego Rivera). You can read the details about this discovery here.
Donald Trump inspires a textile protest
In 2018, when Diana Weymar heard Trump say: “I am a very stable genius”, she decided to immortalise the rather baffling quote with needle and thread. So began the brilliantly named “Tiny Pricks Project”. Over the last year and a half, the project has grown to include hundreds of such embroidered Trump quotes, not just by Weymar herself but also by many contributors from across the globe. The ridiculous (and stupid) quotes expressed in the medium of the embroidery makes the bizarreness of our current political climate that much more jarring. A crocheted tribute to nature
German-born artist Susanna Bauer began crocheting on fallen leaves 10 years ago. This unusual idea has resulted in beautiful, intricate and delicate pieces of art. Look at more of her work here, you won’t regret it.
Researchers use AI to bring the Mona Lisa to life and it’s disconcerting
You’ve probably heard about “deepfakes” on the news recently. Researchers from Moscow have now developed a technique of using static pictures to create moving images. They’ve applied this technology to images of Salvador Dali, Marilyn Monroe and the Mona Lisa. It’s creeping a lot of people out. You can read about it here, or watch the video below.
